Steelhead and Salmon dam counts
Little Salmon River (Stream Flows at Riggins)
The Little Salmon flows are continuing to drop below normal and the fishing has been going down with the flows. Drifting eggs, tuna balls, and jigs will catch fish, and for the main river backtrolling plugs is not a bad idea. Just get your bait or lure in front of their noses and they will do the rest!
Lower Salmon River (Stream Flows at Whitebird )
Closed.
Upper Salmon River
(
Stream Flows at Salmon)
Fishing in the upper Salmon has been improving as flows continue to drop. In fact, it's been so good it may close any day so be sure and check with Fish & Game before you head out. Drifting eggs, tuna balls, and jigs will catch fish, and for the main river backtrolling plugs is not a bad idea. Just get your bait or lure in front of their noses and they will do the rest!
Clearwater River (Stream Flows at Orofino)
Closed to the Orofino Bridge, but it'sopen upstream into the South Fork. Fishing has been imporving as flows drop, and with warmer weather the fish will be moving up stream pronto, don't wait to go.
South Fork of the Clearwater River (Stream Flows at Stites)
The South and Middle Fork of the Clearwater are still open but only fishing so so.
South Fork of the Salmon River (East of Cascade) (Stream Flows near Krassel Ranger Station)
The South Fork of the Salmon is closed but anglers are starting to catch fish on the South Fork of the Clearwater.
Here is my ongoing personal note: "It seems every year we are lucky enough to get a chance to fish for such great fish, someone continues to come along to spoil it! If you're one of the many that leave your crap along the banks, in the campgrounds and down the road, why don't you just go live in the dump, and save yourself the trouble, or better yet save those of us who appreciate what we have in Idaho, the trouble of having to pick up after your sorry - ARRRS' :) Thanks"
Hells Canyon on the Snake River (
Stream Flows below Hells Canyon Dam)
Anglers have been catching a few fish, still nothing to brag about. Drifting eggs, tuna balls, or backtrolling plugs with herring will all catch fish. Just get it in front of their nose and hold on!
