Elk Zone Management
|
For the purposes of hunting elk in Idaho beginning in 1998, a zone is one or more units lumped together. There are 28 elk zones. The "A" tag and "B" tag are two types of tags, one with more opportunity for archery and muzzleloader hunters, the other with more opportunity for centerfire rifle hunters.
This page was made to help you decide where, in which zone, you want to hunt. For the big picture of why and how Idaho elk management has been changed, start with the column by Idaho Fish and Game Chief of Wildlife Steve Huffaker. If you don't know yet where to hunt, or would like to see what conditions are like in each zone, you can start with "How to pick Where to Hunt."
If you know where you will hunt and are burning to know when YOUR season is open, head for the map showing zones or the list of zones by habitat type. Find which zone your unit is in, and click on the zone name. The next screen will show the elk seasons for your zone.
