Idahoˇ¦s central region is made up largely of wilderness and forested mountains, not a place to find lots of warm water fishing opportunity. The lower end of the Salmon River (The River of No Return) does hold good numbers of smallmouth bass, however. Because of high, cold flows in spring and early summer, smallmouth are best caught in late summer and early fall here. Most of the smallmouth fishing is best done from a raft, drift boat or jet boat. Use of a guide is highly recommended on this remote river. The Salmon can be most unforgiving of boat pilots unfamiliar with its whitewater reaches.
